A SaneBox alternative that tells you why
If you are looking for a SaneBox alternative, the usual reason is one of two: you want to say in words what counts as noise instead of training a black box by moving mail around, or you want the noise dealt with rather than parked in a SaneLater folder. QuietMail does both, and shows you every decision it made.
SaneBox is a well-built product with fifteen years behind it. This page explains where it differs from QuietMail so you can pick the right one. Where SaneBox is the better fit, we say so.

What SaneBox does
SaneBox sits between your mail server and your inbox. It watches which senders you open, reply to and ignore, and moves the ones you ignore into a folder called SaneLater. You correct it by dragging a message from one folder to another, and it learns from the move. It works with Gmail, Outlook, iCloud and Yahoo, and its founder has cited a churn rate below two percent a month, which speaks for how well it fits the people who stay.
Where a SaneBox user hits the wall
- You cannot tell it what noise is. SaneBox learns from behaviour. If you want "every shipping notification except the one from my pharmacy", you can only hope it notices the pattern. In QuietMail you type that sentence as a rule.
- The noise is parked, not settled. Filed mail waits unread in a folder. Some people like a folder to skim later. If you would rather it were marked read, or in Spam or Trash, SaneBox has no switch for that.
- You do not see the reasoning. A move happens; the why is inferred. QuietMail logs each decision with the rule that matched and an undo.
- More accounts cost a lot more. Four accounts on SaneBox are $35.99 a month. On QuietMail, 20 inboxes are $14.99.
Where SaneBox is the better pick
- iCloud or Yahoo mail. QuietMail connects only through a provider's own sign-in and never asks for a mailbox password, so it does not support iCloud, Yahoo, AOL or Proton. SaneBox does.
- You want a folder, not an action. If skimming a SaneLater folder once a day is exactly your habit, SaneBox is built around it.
- You do not want to write anything. SaneBox needs no rules. QuietMail has presets and works with a whitelist alone, but its strength is the rules you state.
How QuietMail works instead
Connect an inbox by signing in at your provider. Describe the noise: presets, a whitelist, a blacklist and plain-language rules. From then on an AI model reads a copy of each new message and answers one question: is this noise under these rules? If yes, plain code performs the one action you chose, on Gmail the moment the mail arrives and within about five minutes elsewhere. The unread mail already in your inbox from the last 35 days is cleaned on connect. Paid plans also check your Spam folder and bring back mail you would want.
The AI never acts on your mailbox. It has no tools and returns nothing but its judgment. Mailbox tokens are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, every action is logged with an undo, and an independent security lab has assessed the app. The Security page explains exactly what QuietMail can and cannot do to a mailbox.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is QuietMail a SaneBox alternative for Gmail?
Yes. QuietMail connects to Gmail and Google Workspace by Google sign-in and reviews each new message the moment it lands. It also works with Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, Zoho Mail and JMAP mail servers, but not with iCloud or Yahoo, which SaneBox supports.
How does QuietMail decide what is noise?
You describe the noise: pick presets such as marketing or newsletters, whitelist the senders you care about, blacklist the ones you never want, and add your own rules in plain language. An AI model reads a copy of each new message and answers one yes/no question: does this message match those rules? SaneBox instead learns from which mail you open and move, and you correct it by moving mail between folders.
What does QuietMail do with mail it judges as noise?
The one action you chose: mark it as read, move it to a Noise folder, move it to Spam, or move it to Trash. SaneBox moves such mail to folders like SaneLater, where it waits unread. If you want the noise gone rather than parked, that is the main difference.
Can I see and undo what QuietMail did?
Every decision is written to an activity log with the rule that matched and an Undo that puts the message back. Nothing is deleted without a trace.
Is it safe to give QuietMail access to my inbox?
The AI only reads a copy of each message and returns its judgment. It has no tools and cannot act on your account. Plain code performs the single action you configured, mailbox tokens are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and the app passed a CASA Tier 2 assessment validated by TAC Security in September 2026, the security review Google requires of apps that access Gmail.
How much does switching cost?
Nothing to start. The Free plan covers one inbox with no card and no end date, with 80 AI calls a month; whitelist and blacklist run on every message and do not use a call. Paid plans start at $4.99 a month for one inbox, $7.99 for 3 and $14.99 for up to 20, and analyze every message with no monthly cap. Annual billing is two months free.
